Romania is at its best in Autumn, when the natural world changes colour, from green to many shades of russet, red, golden, yellow, black, amber, pink and brown.
Autumn is also my favourite season. The weather is just perfect, it’s time for layers of clothing, great food and wine, romantic walks through parks or forests, it’s the time of the year when I come alive again, after the numbness of the Summer heat.
I know mine, but what are the reasons why you should love Autumn in Romania, as well?
Wine
Yes, wine is always on top of my list of preferences, and this is the perfect time for a visit and a wine tasting at the local wineries, of which we have plenty. You can even participate at the grape harvest and have a unique experience.
Food
You’ll simply love all the fresh produce “from farm to table”, especially since it’s harvest time. There’s also something special about the season with warm soups, stews and spices.
Have I mentioned pumpkins? Don’t think just about your regular pumpkin spice lattes, but imagine its sweet flavour in pies, salads, or simply baked in the oven, honey poured on top.
Farm fun
Apples, plums, pears, quinces, peaches, figs, blueberries, all are ripe and ready to be picked. It’s a truly fun and different experience to pick them yourself, and then learn some traditional recipes.
In Romanian culture, almost all the above fruit can be turned into brandy, but the traditional and most famous one is the plum brandy, and believe me, you’d want to try at least one glass.
There you have it, my top reasons for loving Autumn. What are yours? What makes your list?
