Let us tell you about a wedding we attended, and the great idea it gave us.
It was a fall wedding, when nature is at its most beautiful and colourful in Romania. The bride and groom knew from the beginning that they wanted to celebrate it in a unique location, so they chose a barn, located in the yard of a centuries-old fortified church next to Sibiu, in Transylvania.
It was a sunny late September day, not very ordinary for that time of the year. The religious ceremony began at 5 pm, in a charming fortified church built on the ruins of an old Roman basilica.
The ceremony, held both in Romanian and German, lasted for half an hour and it got emotional especially when the bride and groom made their vows in front of the altar. After taking some pictures inside the church and near the two defensive walls, the party started. For that night the barn became the party location until the early morning of the following day.
More than 1,000 black and white photographs were printed and glued on paper lace, hung on jute twines. String lights and paper lampshades on the old wooden barn beams, and hundreds of candles and ivy branches on the tables completed the décor. The tables were not numbered, instead they used dates meaningful to their blooming relationship: one table was named 30th of December, the date when they got engaged, another one 25th of May, when they first kissed. And so on.
The barn entrance was decorated with flowerpots, moss wreaths, candles, and sayings on wood signs. The outside area was filled with hay bales and wood pallet furniture.
The magic of the evening was completed by the bride’s dress, created by a very talented and passionate local designer. Her bouquet and floral crown were in tune with the original outfit. What can we say? It all blended nicely together.
The whole evening was enchanting, just like a wedding should be. Iulia, the bride, confessed that despite all the hard work she put into getting everything organized she “…would get married again and again, but always to the same man”.
You probably guessed the idea we had while attending this wedding: in 2017 we want to organize a destination wedding in Transylvania. Just one, not more. Yours if you’re shopping for a different kind of destination wedding.
