It’s a great time to explore Romania on two wheels. Do you know that fantastic feeling of the open road stretching before you? Especially when you’re on the best road in the world, the feeling is pretty incredible. According to Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, the best road in the world is the Transfagarasan in Romania. You can have a look at it here, but it doesn’t come close to the real deal!
Until now, many people have been exploring Romanian roads on four wheels, but that’s slowly changing. As the seasons shift and nature wakes up from its winter slumber, it’s the perfect time to grab a bike, don a helmet, and hit the trails or small roads to immerse yourself in Romania’s breathtaking landscapes.
Not many people know that you can experience the famed beauty of Transylvania on a bike. Home to our favorite Saxon villages, in Transylvania, you can ride from village to village, past ancient fortified churches shrouded in mist, and across rolling hills blanketed with wildflowers. These well-preserved Saxon villages, which are UNESCO World Heritage sites, together with Sighisoara Citadel, the best-preserved medieval citadel in Europe, are easy to visit on a bike while lodging in some of the nicest guesthouses.
For those seeking a more rugged experience, the Carpathian Mountains offer exhilarating biking trails on the Transfagarasan, but also on Transalpina, Transrarau, Transbucegi, and other mountain roads that raise the adrenaline level. In this Carpathian adventure, you will wind your way through dense forests, along sparkling rivers, past hidden waterfalls, and spectacular views.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a casual rider, we can now offer biking experiences to suit every skill level and interest, with the help of our in-house biking expert, Silviu. Silviu loves cycling, running, swimming (actually anything active) and used to run his own cycling company until the pandemic hit. Since we started our companies at the same time (back in 2013/2014) and connected over the joys and challenges of running small travel businesses in Romania, it was a natural move to bring him in with his passion and expertise for biking to welcome travelers who want to explore Romania on two wheels.
